Love A|N|A|L|Y|Z|E|D

Love, lust, sex, kiss, bang and what not. Different names for one basic emotion. They are all the same, aint they? Why has each and every culture, religion and community upheld a divine feeling towards it. Is it truly that divine? If not then why? Why is it a taboo in my desi land? Why are we such hypocrites? I was watching “Mutiny on the bounty”. A Marlon Brando classic. He enacts the role of a young sailor that finds his way to a remote island somewhere in Africa. You know old English movies. They always depict these tribal islands as a heaven for sex. The tribals shown in these movies are always hungry for it, where anybody bangs everybody. However, a small thing caught my attention. Marlon Brando introduces “KISS” to these tribals. The tribals somehow did not know nothing about kissing. They only seemed to rub their noses with each other. Could that be true in a real life scenario?

As a biotechnologist, the thing that truly amuses me is the study of evolution and phylogenetic analysis. These studies are based on conservation of protein structures along an evolutionary line. It is amazing as to how similar some proteins found in human body are when compared to their bacterial counterparts. However, I realized that conservation doesn’t take place at the microbial level alone. There is conservation of physical aspects and interactions as well. Love is truly the most conserved emotion that is expressed so widely. Take each and every aspect of it into consideration. A simple kiss. Just a simple one. Is there a race of humans that doesn’t express love in the form of a kiss? None I can think of. A man coming home to his partner after many days, what is the first thing he does when he sees her? Kiss! Irrespective of color, cast, creed, race, religion, and community; love is often expressed in form of a simple kiss. They all do it in the same way with same emotion. Physical methods of expression of love beyond kiss are restricted due to their biological constraints, but a kiss is not. There could have been different ways of doing it. As unlike sex, there are no physical/biological restraints on it. Then why do we all do it the same way?

The power of love has definitely been underestimated and not well understood, for it has survived through out ages and changes. It is the one thing that didn't succumb to evolution. I stepped out into my backyard, it was raining, the wind was blowing strong. I looked up into the trees, it absolutely was worth capturing! I think I’m going insane now!!

PS: There are two love birds in the pic, kissing!

  1. Are you not confused? Or am I wrong in my understanding from your two sentences.
You started with “Why is it a taboo in my desi land?” and ended with “Then why do we all do it the same way?”.
Oh ok, I got it. Do you think if it’s a taboo, people shouldn’t do it the way it should be done ? And they should behave like people in that “Mutiny on the bounty” ?

All in between whatever you said, I somewhat agree to it. :P
Oh yes, it is indeed a divine feeling. And probably that is why people not only in our desi land but in many other ‘lands’ think it is taboo, not to be shown to others how they feel about it or how sacred it is. But yes, many times they go overboard.
Not to be discussed here. I have something in my mind… will post it if I ever get time or in right mood. There are many other things to post first.

    Nice post !

Btw, this picture makes me nostalgic as well !! Baarish… ummm :D
Read the 5th pt of this what I want to do when it rains. I mean one of the things. :)
And if you want to say anything about that, leave a comment there just like your friend has done.

P.S. Let me know if I understood your post correctly.

  2. @Cuckoo,
The taboo thing, is something I have been unable to understand and comes out as a question to those who might wanna answer it. You know about ajanta alora caves. rite? And you also know about historic paintings etc in which hindu gods and goddesses are shown in love. rite? And the simple fact that love is a sacred emotion, and we still express it in the same manner as Adam nd Eve mite have, so then why is it still a taboo with us? Reminds me of Russell Peter, in his show he talks about sex being a taboo in India and that people are not allowed to talk about it. And the next moment he pops out "We cant talk about sex, but we are the second largest population in the world. Somebody is fucking!". Anywayz sex is not what I intend to talk of here. I just wish that we people were as expressive about love as our western counterparts are. Reminds me of your post about bombay lovers and policemen!

About the picture, I think you missed the two love birds in it,and they are kissing. Just amazes me that animals too do it. Gosh!

Really touched by the effort you put into trying to understand the post! Thanks!!

  3. G'day Beast,

You've got a couple of command formats showing up down the bottom of this post.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm going to put something on my blog, just for you, in the next hour or so.

  4. On another tack, Beast,

Some readers may be put off by the F-word. I'm no prude, but my honest advice to you is to avoid Fs.

Don't alienate potential readers .... you can still get the message across with style and panache.

    Take care

    David

  5. Can't debate here now as I am in a hurry. Doing multi-tasking right now. Yeah, the question posed by you is indeed thought provoking, I somewhat agree. Yeah, when I was reading ur post, it reminded me of my that post.

    LOL@Russell Peter.. I knew it !

Birds ?? Oh my bad !! I really had missed them..must have been sleepy when I commented here. Now I saw it. I think they are more 'humans' than us. :))))
    What do you say ?

Really touched by the effort you put into trying to understand the post!..Was that a compliment ? Irrespective of what you say, I'll that that as a compliment. :)

P.S.- Take that advice from David.. It really annoys people but I guess you guys are never gonna change ! It's on the tip of ur tongue. :P

  6. @David,
yes sir! point duly noted and mistakes rectified!! Thanks for pointing them out. Ohh, special thanks for taking my suggestion into consideration. It just came out, the pic of the tree, te bark, it was truly amazing. Somehow photography to me has always been more than just equipment. It is a way of seeing things from a different angle or perspective. That is what makes it an art to me. However, one needs to know the technical details to make the art presentable! Thanks again for visiting and the post that you have put up in response. Thanks!!

  8. @Cuckoo,
Regarding animals being more human than us, well a video that has been lying on my blog should answer it! It truly is one of the best things Ive seen on youtube so far! CLICK HERE

Yes! It is a compliment. Not everyone that comes here tries to understand the underlying thought!

The P.S. and the guy cant change thing! Sometimes to get the message across, one has to express himself in ways that one doesn't really associate with himself. Just to clarify; in person, I don't use such words! :)

  15. lol Thanks for commenting and pointing out that my statement might have been some what sexist. One thing that is clear with the more people that I have met. We all have various stories, opinions and each with its only very unique title, but with that difference comes one similarity they all touch on the same emotions, love, hate, happiness and sadness, etc.
My definition of the first, is a tomorrow waiting to happen. So if you look at the first as only in the past then indeed the statement that women think of their first love and men of their last. With that let me state that there are many kinds of love for many kinds of people, but that I reference a romance of souls. We are even? The race is on and the stars the finish line...... or the beginning ... a first? for if it is to be your last , then you have stopped living. keep smiling!!!!!!!
